How We Got Started

These days, it’s increasingly common for hospitalized
patients to be discharged into the care of their families
with treatments to be continued at home rather than stay
inpatient at a facility. These discharged patients
then become the clients of home infusion pharmacies who
deliver medication, supplies, and equipment right to
the patients’ door. Many people in the Pottstown area
						– and all over the United States – depend upon home
health care services to supply them with all they need
to control their acute, chronic, or post-surgical conditions.

Because this is a national trend, many home health care
providers are large, national chains. Typically, these
national providers cover a very large service area, so
their drivers must make dozens of stops in one day, their
pharmacists must compound therapies in bulk, and their
patient service representatives must direct a constant
flow of questions and delivery requests.

						In the late 1980’s,
						Professional Pharmacy
began receiving many phone calls from local home health
care patients who asked if the pharmacy’s employees
could correct mistakes made by these national companies.
Common complaints were late deliveries, long telephone
queues, delivery of frozen antibiotics, and rigid payment
						terms.

Home health care patients in our hometown area deserve
the best, most responsive service they can get. To
provide it, we founded Professional Home Care Service
in 1989 and have been proudly serving our community for
more than 25 years. At PHCS, everything has been designed
						with the patient in mind.
